Episode 10: featuring Matt Rinkey, founder of Illumination Wealth Management

Following a week away for time with family, Jared Kelley returns with co-host James Carmody for a timely conversation about leaving legacies that make an impact.  Joined by featured guest Matt Rinkey, founder of Illumination Wealth Management, we dive into the human side of financial management and the real purpose behind planning ahead.  

Matt's story of financial management starts when he was a little kid. While still in his single digits, his parents let him know that he was gifted with six shares of Northern States Power (NSP) stock when he was born. From that conversation forward, he routinely checked the price of his coveted NSP stock in the business sections stock tables.

By age 12, Matt was actively following the stock market and was part of a team that won the Minnesota Stock Market Game competition. Out of 800 teams, his team’s virtual $100,000 portfolio returned the most over a ten-week period. By winning, Matt was provided the opportunity to meet Peter Lynch, one of the world’s greatest investors and former Portfolio Manager of the Fidelity Magellan mutual fund. After college, in 2003, he got his first taste of Wall Street, working in a training program for Kellogg Capital Group. By the end of 2006, Matt was a Senior Analyst for an investment fund, managing a team of five. During the 2008 recession, he started receiving calls from friends and family, requesting financial guidance. So as the financial markets were in meltdown, Matt realized it was time to RISE UP and seize the opportunity to directly lift people’s financial spirits and strategy.

In 2009, as a result of those phone calls and personal inspiration he started his own firm, Illumination Wealth Management, with a simple mission – to help families build their wealth for the future and protect their present assets from the unforeseen.
